On 12 February 1951 General Smith received a warning order to prepare the Division for movement to Chungju in central South Korea. The order stipulated that the division should be prepared to move within 24 hours of notice at any time after 0700 on 14 February. On 13 February, Reconnaissance Company was told to relocate to Chungju on the following day
